Was going to mention Gatton, too.

You mean Sonny Landreth?

the late Allen Collins of Lynard Skynard is probably one of my most favorites.

Luka Bloom - Great acoustic work
Allison Brown - puts Bela Fleck to shame on banjo

Jeff Healey - he can tear it up AND he's blind. If you've not seen him, he plays on his lap like a Dobro.

Steve Howe - I don't see him mentioned much and he's fantastic.

I agree that Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most underrated. Did you know he doesn't use a pick?

I'd also add Mike Campbell (Tom Petty). He plays some really tasty stuff and I believe is very underrated.

I love Kottke and Buchanan, but I don't think of them as obscure... here's some mighty fine obscure players:

Roy Bookbinder
Woody Mann
Larry Sandberg
Rev. Gary Davis
Stefan Grossman
Herb Ellis
Sonny Sharrock
Tommy Tedesco
Eddie Lang
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Sonny Burgess
Roy Nichols
Link Wray
Sharon Isbin

I could keep going - there are dozens to hundreds for every Howe/Hendrix/Clapton you can think of :)

Bill Nelson -- reminds me of that red BeBop Deluxe album cover. Guess that would be my favorite, under rated, obscure album cover.

Mine too! The first time I heard his birdcall leads at the end of 'Sister Seagull', I knew the guitar was capable of one heck of a lot more than I was doing with it :)

Noteboat, those are obscure to me alright. I've never heard of any of them. Gotta do some research.

If you're going to mention Justin...... you've GOT to mention his daugher, Kaki King.............. amazing in her own right!

They aren't even related, besides the fact that they seem to be about the same age.

the lizard king, is surely dead
the king of France, lost his head
