What style would you prefer? What tuning? Acoustic arrangement for simple open chords, or more accurate?

Details, man! :)

Tone is subjective.

Mostly iwhat ii iplay inow is Neil Young, Creedence, Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, etc. I want to get more current. I was in a music store and bought the sheet music for Time After Time, but that is not exactly current either. So then I bought Black Horse and the Cherry Tree and a Taylor Swift book, but Taylor Swift is a ittle too pop. What I find is that a lot of current music is not guitar driven. :note1: :note2:

Well I can see your point.... A lot of todays stuff that you would call current, runs to the Poppy/over produced side... you dig deeper into the more unknown modern acts... and you play stuff that current.... but not many people know what it is... so you might just play older stuff. If you want more the singer songwriter stuff, you pretty much have to look at country..but eaven that is getting poppy..

So help us out..fill in some details.. Are you looking to play just for your self, or perform to others? Something more unknown, or somehting everyone has heard of? Some would say the beatles will always be current. :D

Probably something reogniable, but then again not necessarily. The requirement is that l ike it...and since you can't know whether or not i'll like something, I am asking for recommendations, then i'll find out if I like it. If like it, and it's more or less current and easy to play, I may learn it. No metal, thank you.

Hey Jane

I've been playing Society by Eddie Vedder lately.
It's fairly easy and fits right into the singer/songwriter
you mentioned.

Are you looking for female songs, preferably?

I like Paramore, and have been studying the group. They can do synth songs, and also heavy songs to meet POP criteria on the radio, and rare beautiful ones with acoustic gutar/drums and bass. Wow! This is one of my favorites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J7J_IWUhls

And here's something different, I don't know if you like moody music. It's probably hard to breathe in this song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqTaz4-6CUo&feature=related
