When I started on GN almost a year ago I was listening to rock. Almost exclusivly. Then I moved into a country phase. Now I am listening to Christian rock. There has been alot of ground made in the quality of this type of rock in my opinion. A few years ago when I listened to it, it was very cheesy. But I actally dig alot of this stuff now. Third Day is one of my favorites and reminds me alot of what Bob Seger (mispelt) would sound like if he was young and making music today. Todd Agnew sounds like a cross between Staind and Dave Matthews. Jeremy Camp doesnt sound like anyone, really, but he is an awsome guitar player IMO.

I listen to alot of different styles but usually only one main genre at a time. I just kind of rotate I guess. Rock, County, Pop, Christian, Rap, start over with Rock and so forth. Atleast thats been the history in my life.

I haven't listened to any Christian Rock lately.
I was into a lot of it in the mid '90s. I think the production has become better than it was then.
The groups I liked a lot then were Newsboys, The Kry, Audio Adrenaline, Jars of Clay, Michael Sweet, Petra, DC Talk.
And for a lighter touch I always enjoyed Rich Mullins and his dulcimer work. Awesome musician.
I might have to dig them out, dust em' off and give em' a spin. :)

Treat others how you would like to be treated.

Don't get me started on Christian rock! But I can't resist mentioning Delirious? - one of the best bands around IMHO, regardless of genre.

And how about some of the Vineyard releases? The Langley Vineyard (Canada) band features Brian Thiessen, one of the truly great unsung heroes of the electric guitar 8) And some of the recent UK Vineyard albums with people like Kathryn Scott and James White?

While we're about it - Steve Mitchinson. Andy Park. David Ruis.

Truly there's some great music being made in Christian circles these days, that will stand up anywhere just as music, regardless of what's being shared in the lyrics.

When I lived in the Chicago area it was XRT and only XRT. The DJs I remember were Terri Hemmert, Bobby Skafish, Shel Lustig ... I think Lustig was also the drummer for ska band Heavy Manners.

Last year they had a tribute to Terry Hemmert for her 30 years with the station. She's been on actually almost as long as they have! Bobby Skafish is still on as well.

I remember listening to her when XRT was still on only part of the day, the band width was shared with a Spanish speaking station. Terry was the first female drive time DJ in Chicago-land. 8) 8) 8) --the dog

I liked the Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline a lot. Really haven't been keeping up with them recently. My kids got into the OC Supertones a few years back (my wife and I did, too), and we went to several shows. They usually had Relient K and Switchfoot opening for them. Those were great shows. (We were always down in the crowd of crazies at the front of the stage.)

Incidentally, the quote "Why should the Devil have all the good music?" goes way back. It's been attributed to Martin Luther, and others.

"A cheerful heart is good medicine."

If you go to newsboys.com the song that they play first is a release that is coming out on a double CD. I LOVE that song. I didnt care for them so much until that song.. Now I have started listening to their other stuff too. HUmm.. Thats kind of how I got hooked on Aerosmith too come to think of it.

I can't remember what station it was, but when FM radio first came out, I used to string an antennae all over my bedroom to pick up some station out of Chicago. This was back around 1970. They had the best music I had ever heard. And I was picking this up from Florida!

I thought of this station as very underground at that time. I remember hearing about T Rex one night, this later became my favorite group at that time. But this station was playing great music you couldn't hear anywhere else. It was all I listened to. Wish I could remember what station it was.

To this day, that was the best radio station I've ever listened to.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

Nearest thing on the east coast is the truly excellent public radio station WXPT out of Philly (88.5), also rebroadcast in Baltimore/DC (90.5 IIRC), as well as further west in Pittsburgh. If you like(d) XRT, give XPN a try -- blues, rock (all sorts), alt, alt country, punk, jazz, bluegrass, indie, locals, PRI's Echoes. Of course, I've never heard them have featured artists pairings such as J. S. Bach and John Sebastian, as XRT used to do.
