Okay, I'm cheating in that this is an older song of mine but, I will try to post up something brand new later this week. Anything to get back into the swing of things...

At the end of the song, there is a bit of a rap/chant thing going on (it's the "...all the things you didn't do..." part), which is sung over a bass/drum solo before being done again while the final chorus is sung at the same time. If I can, I'll try to get this recorded and posted as well.

Thanks and be seeing you on the boards.

Wake Up Dead

Everybody's writing stories
Nobody ever reads
Everybody's making movies
Where everybody plays the lead
Living in pictures
Dying in fiction
Loving in retrospect
Everybody's writing stories
When epilogue is all that's left

Was it such a long time ago
Was it such a long time ago
When you were young and
You had time and
You had dreams
And where did it all go

One day my friend
You're going to wake up dead
And nothing will be different
Nothing will be new
That's when you'll find
That you've been dead for quite sometime
But nobody bothered to tell you

Isn't it thrilling isn't it exciting
Look at all the things you've done
Get some paper get some pens
And get every last bit down
You got a job you got a wife
You got all the kids through school
So grab a seat and write your story
There's nothing left to do

Was it such a long time ago
Was it such a long time ago
When you were young and
You had time and
You had dreams
And where did it all go

One day my friend
You're going to wake up dead
And nothing will be different
Nothing will be new
That's when you'll find
That you've been dead for quite sometime
But nobody bothered to tell you

And all the things you didn't do
And all the things you didn't say
And all the things you didn't dream
Come back to haunt you everyday

And all the times that you got caught
All the times that you got made
And all the times that you got out
Come back to haunt you everyday

And all the nights you didn't sleep
All the nights you didn't stay
And all the nights you didn't greet
Come back to haunt you everyday

And all the souls you might have touched
All the souls you might have saved
And all the souls you might have loved
Come back to haunt you everyday

One day my friend
You're going to wake up dead
And nothing will be different
Nothing will be new
That's when you'll find
That you've been dead for quite sometime
But nobody bothered to tell you

Peace

Hi David

The first verse David really sucked me in ...
( hope you understand what I mean )

Seems a little tongue in cheek to especially the last line , " Nobody bothered to tell you " .. I like it ,,

Once again David you write a lovely song

Looking forward to your new song this week David

Hilch :?:

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

Hey I liked this a lot, the writing transitioned very well and I swear I could hear the music even though ive never heard the song. Im about to turn 20 and for the first time I feel kinda old haha so this song is cool looking back on what youve done.

Hi David,

I love the "Wake up dead" line it reminds me
of something a friend of says about pulling
your head out of a certain orifice.

Anyways the song reads almost like a dialogue to me.
That could make it a good candidate for a duet
with one voice asking :

"And where did it all go?"

and the other answering:

"One day my friend
You're going to wake up dead "

Something like that could work with the "rap/chant" too.

Just a thought,

John

Hi David,

I really enjoy your work. Some how, as I read this, I see 2 songs . . . . . the 2nd one beginning with "One day my friend you're going to wake up dead." And that's a really great line, too. When are we going to hear the music?

Hi David,

Mate, I really enjoyed this! Some great writing in there, and very inspiring too, even though I'm yet to hear a recording.

This is the sort of song that really makes the listener look introspectively and ask themselves why they keep putting off this and that. I can see people hearing this and being motivated to follow their dreams!

Great stuff! 8)

Hey Dave!

Very cool song you wrote there. The first thing that came to mind for me when I saw the title "Wake Up Dead" was Megadeth's song by the same name. Except in that song it's about a husband/boyfriend coming home late after cheating on his wife/girlfriend and... well you can guess the out come for that song.

So many lines and verses that are great to pick just one. Great how you get the feeling same crud, different day from your song from my point of view. It also drives home for me finding out about a girl I had a crush on for years is getting married, just another dream lost forever.

Hi David,

Great, great work! I absolutely love the first verse and it all comes together like hand in glove. I hope you get to do that recording, I'm looking forward to hearing this!

Hi David

As usual with anything you put up I'm biased as I still think you're one of the most talented songwriter's I know. This one's no exception.

Although I would say the chant at the end I read very much as Eclipse from Dark Side of the Moon rather than a rap/chant

Good stuff
