Maybe

I saw some people at a sidewalk café
You know they seemed a little grey
And although they’re my friends I don’t comprehend
Why they let things affect them that way
All the crime and abuse we see on the news
Sometimes it’s just gets too much
And maybe you know they’d be far better off
Not listening or watching that stuff
Maybe, Maybe, Maybe
Maybe it comes down to this
Sooner or later when it’s all said and done
Ignorance is bliss
Ignorance is bliss
I guess what I’m saying is that maybe it’s time
For people to stop frightening themselves
And sharing the pain with those who all think the same
Is simply not good for your health
Maybe, Maybe, Maybe
Maybe it comes down to this
Sooner or later when it’s all said and done
Ignorance is bliss
Ignorance is bliss

Hi Paul,
Good start :D Clear message....the "bliss" is a bit cliche, but it could work
Suggestions:
Consider making the "topic" amongst the friends more petty.......like elections or sports teams....maybe up it to loud music, vandalism or graffiti.......child abuse doesn't sound like it would be an "on going" topic
I guess what I’m saying is that maybe it’s time
For people to stop frightening themselves
And sharing the pain with those who all think the same
Is simply not good for your health
Consider adding something more to the story here......this is already said clear enough in the beginning.....maybe a look through the singer's rose-colored glasses.....or insight as to how the singer adopted this philosophy....or what the "friends" think of Mr. Bliss..........or have Mr. Bliss go off on some topic others would consider not worth mentioning.....like wearing certain colors on certain days of the week.....it could go comical...........
..........or it could go into a serious issue like asperger syndrome where the person does not pick up on "normal" social cues
Thanks for sharing :D
James
I liked your "Ignorance is bliss" story. At first, I thought like James, that there should be small talk about politics or sports but I get the reason behind the song.
Hi Paul,
I enjoyed your playing and singing, and also your theme that not knowing might beat knowing.
I haven't watched the TV news for years, and as I drift slowly towards senility, I rather like the idea of gently sliding into a state of blissful ignorance about a great many things!
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Paul,
Nice job on the mp3 :D
I know what it's like to deal with the 3/4 minor key constraint....I think for this song, it worked against your lyrics.
It would seem the music to the message would be lighthearted, care-free major 7th type upbeat sound.....something like a style Neil (chefie) uses from time to time.
.....and on the listen, the "child abuse" seems to get downplayed to not being an issue to the message of the song.
Thanks for sharing.
James
Thanks guys

yeah me too :D .

Yes I would have liked to have done this song like Paul Simon's "Still Crazy after all these years"
Incidently this is the first 3/4 song I've ever done so I first had to learn how to play in that style, hmm interesting.
and on the listen, the "child abuse" seems to get downplayed to not being an issue to the message of the song.
Child abuse is just one example of bad news, I think having an additional example would work because that phrase does seem to sit out there by itself doesn't it.
cheers
Paul
new version:
this verse
All the crime on the news like child abuse
Sometimes it’s just gets too much
And maybe you know they’d be far better off
Not listening or watching that stuff
becomes
All the crime and abuse we see on the news
Sometimes it’s just gets too much
And maybe you know they’d be far better off
Not listening or watching that stuff
