Just Me
© Copyright 2006 Paul Brady

Maybe, I'm not a man
In your sense, of that word
Why do you think, you know me

I'm just me, that's who I am
I'm just me, that's who I am

Maybe I'm not so, easily labelled
Or classified by some degree
I'm not the one, you think you see

I'm just me, that's who I am
I'm just me, that's who I am

< bridge >

Maybe, I'm still a child
Who can't make, sense of this world
And need someone, to show me

I'm just me, that's who I am
I'm just me, that's who I am

And maybe this child inside
Will never be able to decide
Just who he is, or turn out to be

I'm just me, that's who I am
I'm just me, that's who I am

Looks alright from here - but after last week, I dunno, this seems a bit flat in comparison - think I'd have to hear this before passing judgement.....after "Faces" you've got a reputation to maintain (a good one!)....there's nothing wrong with this per se, I was expecting something really good and got somrthing fairly average....a good average, though - and I'm not sure how this fits the changing faces theme?

Maybe you should've saved "Faces" for this week......?

Ah well - it's still alot better than what I managed to come up with last night.....that went straight in the bin when I re-read it this morning.....

:D :D :D

Thanks Vic,
Your right, “Faces” is a hard act to follow and in my defence all I can say is that this time around I've been concentrating on the music and I built the song around that. My guitar teacher has just introduced me to slash chords, which this song uses. So I guess this means that I'll have to record it, I'll try to find some time. As far as changing faces topic is concerned, my thinking is that maybe we don't change as much in some respects as we think, from our childhood to adulthood. We might think we are different and assign some kind of “grown up” status to ourselves and others but really we are just who we are right now. Deep down we have the same number of insecurities.

Cheers
Paul

I like it. It's short, but direct.

Something bothered me though.

From the first verses and the chorus the idea that your confident in your own identity is grown and solidified, until you get to this part.

"Will never be able to decide
Just who he is, or turn out to be."

It's kind of like your saying. I am me. I am me, and you better accept me for who I am.
...Wait, who am I again?

Hope this helps :D

Paul,

It appears to me the the first half is the
way your character would like to be perceived
by the outside world.

Where as the second part is the "inner self"
struggling with self doubt.

Nice Job,

John

I like this song. It seems to be about you not wanting to be labelled or misjudged. I didn't hear an acoustic song while reading it but your recording stilll sounded good.

Thanks all for the feedback.

This song was inspired by this statement:
“Be a man for gods sake, and grow up !”

Saber: I know what you are saying. From my perspective that confidence is there in the chorus but so is the self doubt with each verse.

John: That's right, the whole song is really about perception and pigeon-holing people. People including himself thinking they know who he is.

OWA: I think you're on to it, definitely not wanting to be misjudged, in fact not wanting to be judged at all.

Hilch: Thanks for the comment on the playing. This is the first time I've used slash chords, using different sets of three notes to make up the chord up and down the neck of the guitar.

The bottom line for me is that at any one time we can behave like children or adults whatever those labels mean. We really are just who we are right now.

Cheers
Paul
