Hey all,

First, let me say, I love my dad, and he has grown so much as a man in the time that I've known him. However, growing up was tough because of his short fuse, something which I have inherited. That's what this song is about.

There's parts I like and some I don't like so much, so any feedback is welcome.

Moving Mercury
©2007 Robert Gowland

Verse 1
We've gathered here once again
To answer the question
Can a house burn at both ends
And who can burn the other one down?

We fight this fire
The only way we know how

Chorus
And I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun

Verse 2
Welcome to back the bitter end
Where no one gives
We take, we take away
We fan, we fan the flames

Chorus
And I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun

Verse 3
This is Father's Day
When the torch is passed down
And this is every day when
The sins of the the father have found a new home

Chorus
And I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun
I'm moving Mercury closer to the sun

Chorus 2
The sins of the the father live through the son
The sins of the the father live through the son
The sins of the the father live through the son
Long after your flame has burnt out

Coda
Let the sparks fly
To the dry grass
Let the fields burn
All around us

Ice cream is a dish best served cold.

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

It's positively boiling, Robert...I love the shielded words, and the way you go to the chorus in the vocals and guitar. You say a lot by not saying a lot in this song, and one needs to listen to get the intent of the lyrics, which I really like.

As Trev said, this one's a keeper!

Very solid job. Love the concept of "moving mercury closer to the sun." Great job man.

The guitar works with it too. Though at the same time, I imagine this song "exploding" at the end, then quickly settling down, if you know what I mean.

Hi Rob

There's so much tension in the words and the music it seems like it's waiting for something big to happen. You can feel the clashing personalities right the way through it..

To echo Trevor -WOW

Excellent stuff
