As I mentioned in my other post this week, I had the vague beginnings of an idea for another song, a half formed riff and a few words....been working on the riff tonight, and this is what I came up with....

E---------------0--------------------------------]
That's repeated through out the song - guitar #1 - except for the solo, which guitar#1 plays, and guitar#2 plays a 12-bar blues rhythm.....
The next part was trying to write lyrics....I don't usually write this way, it's far easier to put music to lyrics than it is to put lyrics to music....it was made doubly difficult by the fact I had to fit the lyrics to individual notes....
Anyway, in the other post, I said I'd got a couple of ideas, baased on three separate incidents....
1 - Bleary eyed, going out to work for 6-2 shift after a good night's uninterrupted wailing from kids, tripped over cat on way out....had several stitches in chin....
2 - Thinking about strike at same workplace, though that was a couple of years earlier....
3 - To compound the misery, thinking back about the time I got home from empty house, no wife, no kids....no furniture either.....
and this is what I came up with....
Bad Luck Blues
(Vic Lewis)
I woke up this morning,
Stepped on my black cat,
Got out of my front door,
Tripped over the doormat,
Shouldn't have got out of bed,
Thought I might just go back.
But I changed my mind,
I got on my bike,
When I got to work,
Everybody's on strike,
Flying pickets outside,
Spoiling for a fight.
I got home this evening,
My wife was gone,
She left me a message,
Said she wouldn't be long,
But I know she's a liar,
I know where she's gone.
I'll try and get a demo posted tomorrow.....
:D :D :D
Vic
UPDATE.....had a go at the riff tonight, got it fairly well nailed....just need a bit more time to get it perfect, than I can sing and play i at the same time.... I'll have another go tomorrow....
And the title's bugging me - doesn't sound right - original title was "Bad Day", then Bad Luck Blues, stil not happy...thinking of "Bad Day At Black Rock" (sort of an homage to the old Spencer Tracy film....).....really not sure to call this......
:D :D :D

Oh my god Vic
you must be really struggling with the no sleep thing because that's the only way I would have found time to go to length and detail that you have here....
This so...detailed and written so well , I would love to have a go at playing it but my strumming hand at the moment is like a tennis ball ( the doc ) says it will come good soon enough ..
Back to your lyrics though ...
I got home this evening,
My wifw was gone,
????? typo young man ?? wife maybe
apart from that little typo there not a lot I can add
I agree with you on putting lyrics to music and vice verser
Keep well my friend

Corrected typo.....funny how that word, "WIFW" keeps coming out wrong.....

"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
Hi Vic
You're one week into "Year Four" and you've got two songs - I think the rest of us are going to develop some insecurities!
I like this (maybe because I have a black cat) and even though someone's already used the title, I can't help calling it A Day In The Life. Maybe Another Day In The Life.
You got another song in you this week?
Peace
I've got a lot more songs in me this week - Marilyn said, "huh, you've never written a song for me (she reads all my songs, and gets to hear the first version before I even post....)
So I said, "OK, you want me to write a song for you?"
She said, "Not unless you mean it....."
So after nurdling about on the guitar for a bit, I came up with this.....
OK, It's really cliched, there isn't much imagery there, but I did it completely off the top of my head, while she was watching/listening.....
MARILYN
You're the sparkle in my eye,
You're my reason why,
I couldn't find anyone better,
You're my raison d'etre,
Marilyn, Marilyn,Marilyn, Marilyn,
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
Marilyn, I love you, Marilyn, I love you......
And I always will.
Now I found someone so sweet,
To make my life complete,
Took me so long to find,
Now I can leave the past behind,
Marilyn, Marilyn,Marilyn, Marilyn,
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
Marilyn, I love you, Marilyn, I love you......
And I always will.
(Bridge)
All my life, been looking for someone true,
All my life, I've been looking for you.......
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
M -A - R - I - L - Y - N,
Marilyn, I love you, Marilyn, I love you......
And I always will.
The chords are pretty simple....A/D/E for verses, A/D/A/E for the spelled out bits....
For the bridge, F#m, E & D .....
Well Marilyn liked it.......!
I suppose I should post this as "Week 1, PT 3".....
I'm on a roll, I have another idea now....she just asked me, "Did you ever feel that way about ******* (who shall remain anonymous) - my ex, split up with her just before I met Marilyn....
Hmmmmm, this could be a long week.....
3.07am, Vic goes off to find guitar.....
:D :D :D

"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
hey:)
know what? I like this song, too:)
the first verse and the last one , especially these two lines
But I know she's a liar,
I know where she's gone. are the ones I liked most.
I had no go at playing this, coz I'm too tired and too lazy, sorry, but I'm looking forward to hear a recording of this if you have the time to do it(I mean if you're not writing another 10 songs)
the song for Marylin is simple and sweet, knowing that it's an honest song I'd say: well done and yes, I'm sure she liked it! who would not like such a song written and dedicated to him/her........ and I found myself that if you're full of affection for someone and trying to put it into words it usually comes out simple, honest and direct. and that's ok, you need no imagery for this in my opinion.
so that's three songs from you I liked this week.
gotta go and take a look at the rest of them now.
