I was born way north of the Rio Grande
Where city buildings touch the sky
But on Sunday mornings the screen on our old TV
Showed me a western kind of guy.
There on the screen, in always glorious black and white
I watched the heroes on the air
Their hearts were pure, and they never ran from a fight
Good over evil, fair is fair.
Got to find me a Cowboy
of my own
Sittin tall in the saddle,
lean and honed
Got to have me a Cowboy
In my arms
Fightin off the bad guys
Keepin me safe from harm
I can't help but feel,
I been tied to the railroad track
A good portion of my life
Been lying here, waiting flat on my back
To be a cowboy's wife
I can be the old school marm,
Who's hair was fiery red
Who's love he left behind
He keeps his boots beneath her bed
But not all cowboys are the marryin' kind.
Got to find me a Cowboy
of my own
Sittin tall in the saddle,
lean and honed
Got to have me a Cowboy
In my arms
Fightin off the bad guys
Keepin me safe from harm

Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.
nice job, and props for posting something clearly complete so quickly after the assignment was set! Reading this, I was kinda thinking of the music/style of Angel From Montgomery, particularly the version done by Susan Tedeschi on her Just Wont Burn album, lap steel accomaniment and a bittersweet overall feel to it. Will you be posting an /mp3 at all? If so, I'll deffo give it a listen. :D
yeah, this is good, damn you!
Excellent, definitely brings up the 50s black and white movies, kind of classic cowboy obsession in America. This would sound great as a fast number with some ripping lead guitar. Excellent chorus especially.
Kathy,
I saw the title and thought that "Oh Yeah I know exactly where Kathy is taking this one."
I wasn't very far off at all.
Good Job
John
Sighs with nostalgia thinking of all the Western series I grew up watching......
Great stuff, Kath. I do think, however, this verse is a touch weaker lyrically than the rest.....
There on the screen, in always glorious black and white
I watched the heroes on the air
Their hearts were pure, and they never ran from a fight
Good over evil, fair is fair.
Maybe something like......
There on the screen, glorious in black-and-white,
I watched those heroes every week,
Their hearts were pure, and they never ran from a fight,
Good over evil, defending the meek.
Just a suggestion, as always.
Funny - Scrybe's thinking low-key and plaintive, Drunkrock's thinking up-tempo....I'm inclined more to the former, kind of a wistful yearning for more innocent times when the guys in the white hats always won......
As always, great to read what you come up with....
:D :D :D

Will this one do?
As long as it's not A "Continental Cowboy", you'll do fine. what size boots are you anyway???
I think this needs a fiddle, and some of those Monty Python coconut shell hoofbeats in it!

Wow, that was an awesome take on the song! Not to insult any of the other posters, but it's a pretty rare that I download a song from here. Expect me to add this to my western playlist.
Good job!
