Quite a topical subject for me at the moment - so this one is specially for my mum, Valerie, who is suffering from Alzheimers.
I forget me
I have been away with the fairies
I have been asleep on the hill
breathing in the blue from a small bunch of flowers
called forget-me-not
I close my eyes
Sun and moon have come and gone
and passed me by
night and day spinning like kittens chasing leaves
I turn to the days but the details are gone
I turn to the years how the numbers have grown
I turn to the pillow of moss on the stone
and I forget me
I have been away with the fairies
I have been asleep on the hill
breathing in the blue from a small bunch of flowers
called forget-me-not
I close my eyes
Time and tide have come and gone
and passed me by
ships have sailed westward and eastward chasing dreams
I turn to the winds and the air has grown still
I turn to the sun and my bones feel the chill
I turn to the mountain and slide down the hill
and I forget me
I have been away with the fairies
I have been asleep on he hill
breathing in the blue from a small bunch of flowers
called forget-me-not
I close my eyes
Memory has come and gone
and passed me by
all my life scattered like kittens chasing leaves
I turn to the days but the details are gone
I turn to the years how the numbers have grown
I turn to the pillow of moss on the stone
and I forget me

hagrider,
Vey nice. I like the link between the flower and the topic. I watched a loved one go through dementia and can relate. Any thoughts for music?
Andy
Cheers Andy - its a swine of a disease isnt it!
As to the music - that's the bit I struggle with. I sort of know how I want the phrasing to go & where I want the melody to rise & fall. But am going to have to devote a bit of time to it.
Cheers,
HagRider
Hi Hagrider,
First of all, condolences on your mother's painful journey.
Regarding the song, I like a lot of the images.
Suggestion:The last line of the chorus is considered one of the "power positions/spot light" of a song. Consider repeating the line "forget-me-not" two times instead of saying "I close my eyes"......I agree with Andy that it is a powerful link between the experience and the flower as a possible metaphor for the song.
Thanks for sharing. :D
James
Thanks James
You're right - I've missed an opportunity there by not utilising that spotlight, I don't think I want to repeat the "forgetmenot" there - but I will deffo have a good think about putting something more powerful/important in there.
Thanks for that (and for the condolence)
Cheers,
HagRider
Very nice imagery. The song that I'm working on is also about someone that I know with Alzheimer's. I'm not ready to share it yet, but your lyrics outshine mine.
