Hey all!

Sorry it's been so long for me. It's been a busy summer.

So, the recording is rough. I didn't know exactly what i was going to do with the verse melodies. I knew I wanted it to start in my low register, and build higher as the song went on. I used a built in rhythm off my keyboard, my spiderman guitar mic'd and Reaper for my DAW software. Anyway, here's my midnight song....

DivShare File - Midnight Hour.mp3

Under the willow tree
I am forced to sleep
It's where I'm cursed to spend my days
Every night I'm given
Just one hour of freedom
when the midnight hour comes

Oh... When the midnight hour comes

I can see you standing
In the moonlight crying
all your friends have gone back home
but please wait for me
The night will set me free
When the midnight hour comes

Oh. When the midnight hour comes

And the air fills my lungs
then my heart beat comes
I feel your touch upon my face
Another night together
Every night forever
When the midnight hour comes

Oh.. when the midnight hour comes

Wow! Sounds great  I really like the mix of unexpected music style and lyrics. Nice playing as well.

Suggestions:
1 If you want to leave the singer undefined, that works, but I am still trying to work out who or what creature it word be in such a situation....so consider maybe a bridge dropping a more direct hint as to who this is.....when I think of only getting an hour "out" a day, I keep imagining a convicts in a high security prison

2 Stream-line effect.....consider dropping words that might be implied already to tighten up the lines....for example:
(I didn't count it out for syllable or stress placement but just to give an idea)
Under the willow tree
Forced to sleep
Where I'm cursed to spend my days
Every night I'm given
Just one hour of freedom
when the midnight hour comes

Oh... When the midnight hour comes

See you standing
In the moonlight crying

Oh. When the midnight hour comes

The air fills my lungs
My heart beat comes
I feel your touch upon my face

Again, nice job on the music. I can still remember the melodies of the verses and chorus as I type this....nice contrast of the sections.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks James!

I didn't think of a convict... I like that. I usually start with a line and just kinda add to it until it starts to make some kind of sense. That's why i like this group. It gives me a starting point to write from. In this case "midnight" gave me some imagery to work with and turned into a story about a ghost that comes back for one hour every night and a woman that comes to see him. I agree it's not "complete". I felt like i should add more, but I felt like the song was getting long/ I was getting tired :)

Thanks for the lyrics tip too. lyrics have never been my strong suit.

Zeke

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
