Like Paul said . . . . this was hard. Gosh, am I really that old that I remember black and white TV? And actually getting up and walking to the TV to change the channel?

MY TV

It's Saturday morning, a very long time ago
it's pretty early, maybe seven o'clock, or so
My mother's asleep, my dad is at work
my brother's are playing with their friends, those jerks
and I'm as happy as any kid can be
sitting on the floor and watching my tv

There's Roy Rodgers and don't forget Trigger
a flying cowboy named Sky King, go figure
Tonto and you know who, Hop a Long Cassidy too
an adventure every week, life was at its peak
and I'm as happy as any kid can be
sitting on the floor and watching my tv

everything on tv back then was black and white
and every lesson portrayed was either wrong or right
nothing to color the evidence,
just a bunch of cowboys leaning on a fence
shooting their bang bang guns
whooping it afterwards and having lots of fun

Now everything's changed I'm talking color
there's a wider screen, and you know it's a lot taller
high definition so you can see
more than you want, don't you agree
simulcast and cable too
don't forget instant replay, who knew

There's dear Abby, my favorite on NCIS
she's a real goth, a fashion queen at her best
and then there's CSI, law and order, oh my
Dr. House will treat you right,
you don't need to move, you can watch him all night
and I'm happy as any kid can be
never moving and watching late night tv

It's Friday night, about ten o'clock or so
lying back and clutching my remote control
The wife is away, the kids are asleep
my best friend is laying, neatly at my feet
and I'm as happy as any kid can be
relaxing in my chair and watching my tv

Hi Neil,
nice song, I like the way it turns the full circle "happy as a kid" in the first and last verse, I think that works well.
I also like the contrast between the technology changing but the audience still remaining the same, nice touch.

cheers
Paul

Hi Neil,

Great go at the lyrics. I have nothing to suggest except to say I enjoyed the read...nice balance of detail and word painting and between personal and universal.

Don't worry, I still remember B&W TV and I still consider myself young... well, youngish

I really like the line "nothing to color the evidence". Tv was more innocent back then (at least, judging from the repeats. I AM only 28).

At first I didn't like the verse in italics, because it seemed negative while the following verses are positive, but after reading it a few times it does feel ok. You're not really saying literally about how you're feeling about the changes on your tv, but I can sense it and that's what art should do, after all.

Hi Neil :)

I also liked the "color the evidence" line and the way "happy as any kid can be" developed throughout the song :D
And I love the language of the first two verses, like "go figure", "those jerks", so cute :D
high definition so you can see
more than you want  great!

However, I'm not so sure about the second line in the italics bit... might be just me being nit-picky...can't really put my finegr on it, but it seems awkward... especially the "and you know it's a lot taller"... don't have any suggestions how to rephrase it though and it is only tiny thing after all

Cheers,
straycat.
