Hi all,
Thought I'd try to simplify a bit this week . . . . . .

PROMISES AND LIES
did you believe your promises to be real
or did they simply give you a chance to steal
a dream I thought we might share
did you ever care
What's the difference between your promises and lies
a person I could love
or a person I could despise
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
did you talk just to listen to yourself
did it matter, did it help
that I believed in every word
in every word
What's the difference between your promises and lies
a person I could love
or a person I could despise
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
What's the difference between your promises and lies
a person I could love
or a person I could despise
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied and you lied
Hmmm - as you say, Neil, a little stripped down this week. Personally, I think it suits the song - with the rather sparse guitar backing, the vocals come across as careworn, world-weary and jaded - just right for the mood!
It's a little unlike you to have only a couple of verses - you're usually not short of a phrase or several! But again, I think the repetition works well - there's just an atmosphere about the whole song that works well.
:D :D :D
