Not that they need my help, but I was hoping either Willie Nelson or the Dixie Chicks might want to pick this one up . . . . .

TUMBLEWEED
He's six foot two and wears a white hat
and he rides into town with nothing on his back
he looks around and he likes what he sees
lots of pretty girls and skirts in the breeze
he greets all the girls
and tells them that he loves them
and he meets all the girls
kisses ‘em and hugs ‘em
and when they're out of breath
and nothing they can say
he turns his back and goes on his way
He's a tumbling, tumbling, tumbleweed
and he tumbles around town gathering what he needs
and when he has all he wants he goes on his way
it's not in his nature to settle down and stay
and he tumbles from one bed into another
and the girls all say he's a natural born lover
and then tips his hats and goes on his way
turns his back and says have a nice day
he's a lonesome cowboy and when he rides out of town
he remembers what he lost, not what he's found
his first love loved him and said forever more
then she loved him and left him, walked out the door
Now he greets all the girls
and tells them that he loves them
and he meets all the girls
kisses ‘em and hugs ‘em
and when they're out of breath
and nothing they can say
he turns his back and goes on his way
He's a tumbling, tumbling, tumbleweed
and he tumbles around town gathering what he needs
and when he has all he wants he goes on his way
it's not in his nature to settle down and stay
Neil,
Took you long enough to submit this week. You are usually the first one in.
Anyways I could hear Willie doing this one very much. Lyrically I thing you
did a good job stepping out of your style. Musically I'm not too sure although
this does seem to be more uptempo with less rambling.
Maybe if I heard Willie or The Chicks do I would feel differently.
Good Job
John
A solid interpretation of the lonesome cowboy theme. Good job.
Randy Travis does a song called
He Walked on Water (right click to open YouTube in another window)
It kinda fits the meter in the first few lines of your song.
That's what I thought it would sound like when i started reading the lyrics.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Lyrically it works fine for me - musically, it doesn'ts seem too much of a radical departure from your usual style, Neil. Then again, I'm not that well-versed in country - but I was kind of expecting an alternating root/fifth bass line, and a little more swing. There seems to be quite a lot of minor chords, too, where you'd expect the whole mood of the song to be a little lighter in tone.
But like I said, country isn't my strong point, so it's probably just me!
As always, though, full marks for the playing and singing.
:D :D :D

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
Hi Neil,
glad you wrote a song around the word "tumbleweed", because I love it :D And the chorus really tumbles very comfortably off my tongue (or off yours into my ear  ). Also, can imagine Willie + don't know much about the Dixie Chicks
thanks!
cheers,
straycat.
