The ballad of bobby joe

Twas a cold October morning
The day blackwatch went away
A chill in the bones there was
Nothing left to say
Deployed to the land of oil
To fight in someone elses war
And there they will stay
Until the final fighting day

Mr priminister take care
Of our boys
Treat them like men and
Not your little toys
I don’t care what bush says
Or what you believe
Take care of our boys
And your nation appease.

A private named Bobby Joe
He was all set to go
Passed all his checks
His buttons where a shining
Wont be long now till hes
Out into the desert
Like a fish out of water
Surrounded by sharks
That know every sand dune
And know every cave
Just waiting to send
Bobby Joe to his grave

Two months out a training
Bobby joe was on the front line
Had spots on his face
He can barely tell the time
As he stands at his guard post
A checkpoint in the sand
And the barrier can only
be raised by his hand
that wont stop his enemy
or what they’ve got planned
its noon and the suns high
theres a haze its so damn hot
a truck comes screaming
Bobby Joe’s guts are in a knot
He thinks about running
But then he thinks not
It’s a lone driver Bobby joe
Tries to take him out
The truck just keeps coming
Theres no way round about
Now Bobbys got but one chance
To turn tail and run
If he’d taken that chance maybe
He’d a made it out of this land
But decided his checkpoint
Oh it had to be manned
And a suicide bomber blew
Bobby Joe’s body across the sand

Mr primeminister take
Care of our boys
Treat them like men and
Not your little toys
I don’t are what bush says
Or what you believe
Take care of our boys
And your nation appease

Now Bobby Joe was a hero
When he left his mamma’s house
She didn’t want to see him go
But she shut her mouth
She feared for his life
She feared for her son
mostly she feared
That he wouldn’t return
But he was doing his duty
He was a success
He was a soldier
Of the west
He died a hero’s death
Hell of a way to go
And that’s the ballad of Bobby Joe

And i'll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it and reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it.- Bob Dylan,a hard rains gonna fall

I would like to hear you put some chords into this, I really liked the lyrics...

But I have two suggestions:

1) In the chorus, try not to use bush by his name.. try to describe him in another way. I wish I had an idea to put in here, but sadly, i don't..

2) And a suicide bomber blew
Bobby Joe's body across the sand

Again, I think you should describe this in another way... maybe use some imagery (though not too detailed, please :) )

Other than these two things, I think it's great!

man:)

I agree with Man.

I would not use Bush by name. Just a little more vague would allow it to be more timeless.

a bit of a run on/ protest, but it hits home for me since my brother and my cousin have just gone to war, and Bush is still in power now, meaning they wont be home for 2 years
