strange.....
"Amphibian"
(intro)
Attuned to the simple world around you
The little puddle where you first learned to swim
Until the day you put your head above the surface
And you breathed in....
(v1)
Salamander swimming in the water
Reptile slithering on the ground
Another monkey swinging in the treetops
Decides he's coming down
(chorus)
Amphibian... have you forgotten where you came from?
Cause you went and set your feet upon dry land?
Well look at you now, the faithless thing you've become
Now that you're a man... now that you're a man
(v2)
You bought what the other apes were selling
Drawn to the township lights' allure
Now the fish that learned to walk upon two legs
Goes crawling on all fours
(chorus)
Amphibian... have you forgotten where you came from?
Did you make yourself the king of all you've found?
Keep this in mind as you follow your momentum
You're headed straight down.. follow it straight down
(ending)
Amphibian... have you forgotten where you came from?
Cause you went and set your feet upon dry land
Well look at you now, the hopeless thing you've become
Now that you're a man....

This is really good, lots of meaning, and plenty of original twists to an old thought. It's pretty direct, because the metaphors you use aren't very abstract, which gives it a lot of structure so that it doesn't fall apart
I don't follow my dreams, I just ask em' where they're going and catch up with them later.

Did you see that!

Well Marv...,
Well done. Really quite <superlative, *3> well done. I don't know if you have any intention of recording this one, but it'd be interesting to hear. There are just so many styles to which this song lends itself. I read it with a sort of wallflowers / counting crows feel to it, but I can also see this in a Crosby Stills Nash & Young style. Or any number of others. The intro / ending to offset the verse / chorus is a nice approach. Favorite lines are in the second chorus:
"Amphibian... have you forgotten where you came from?
Did you make yourself the king of all you've found?"
I love the intro, and the meter in the first verse is very catchy. That verse is sort of conceptually staccato. It sets up a vivid visual montage. Really marv, the whole thing is just very good.

Hi Marv
This is excellent. Very good theme and superbly written. Gripped me right to the end.
Excellent
Bob
You are what you eat, eat well
Fantastic effort there. I think that what you are trying to say gets through loud and clear, and that in itself is an achievement. Maybe it's because I just saw Shrek, but the amphibian making himself king line brought the frog prince to mind...
I think I could hear this with the intro spoken over a primal drum beat in the background, with the music becoming progressively more complex as the song progresses, but again ending in simplicity to show the evolution/devolution described.
Here's my token nitpick: The second verse doesn't follow the quasi-rhyme scheme you established in verse 1 (ground/down) vs. (allure/fours) unless you mispronounce one of the word, which seems to be more and more acceptable these days ( a popular band rhyming "so" with "door" by pronouncing it "Do'" comes to mind). It also seems a little bit weaker than the first verse, but I can't really put my finger on what makes it so.
Keep up the good writing. Hope to see more of it.

Been on hiatus from the board lately... GN's own Pet came to visit and kept me occupied for a bit over two weeks and the band's been recording some new demo stuff which requires a great deal of my time and creative energy. This is the first of our new demo tracks.... more to come.

No, it's our very own Marvelous Optimist.
Really nice work.
I have to say, wasn't all that impressed with your week 52 offering, but this is in a different class............absolutely superb!!!
Maybe the week 52 song'll sound better on mp3 than it does in my head...
