Hi all,

And a happy new year to everyone.

http://www.soundclick.com/neilstuart

The Future

I can't remember
everything's new
It's as if I never existed
and I don't know what to do

I don't know who I was
or who I'm supposed to be
nothing that I can recall
nothing that appears to be me

but I've got my future ahead of me
no sense living in the past
there was never any guarantee
that anything would last

and though I can't remember
it doesn't bother me
nothing in my past to hold me back
I'm totally free

and there's nothing I can't do
nothing to hinder me
nothing that I can't have
nothing that I can't be

cause I've got my future ahead of me
no sense living in the past
there was never any guarantee
that anything would last

cinnamon twigs turn to ash in the flames
a life has ended yet something remains
and the phoenix rises and flies into the sun
a life has ended and a new life begun

So now I go forward
no sense looking behind
everything I need's ahead of me
my future is there for me to find

and though I can't remember when
and I can't remember how
there's nothing in the past I need
I'm living in the here and now

and I've got my future ahead of me
no sense living in the past
there was never any guarantee
that anything would last

Hey Neil

And a happy New Year to you as well ..

I can't listen to this right now as I am suppose to be listening to a forum a speech on regulated management protocols ..{ yawn yarn } wake me up someone please ...

So instead of me nodding off , I thought I would read some posts ..

This song reads very well to me I love this :

cinnamon twigs turn to ash in the flames
a life has ended yet something remains
and the phoenix rises and flies into the sun
a life has ended and a new life begun

I can remember reading cinnamon twigs somewhere a little while ago , I might have to google this as it sounds very nice..

Cheers

Trevor

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

I think this conveys a single emotion very well. My initial impression is to diversify the verses somewhat to give it a bit more depth. Show a way you're not going to be hindered by the past. Show how the future is wide open and you're free to choose what you will.

For what it's worth... :D

Very nice mp3, Neil....particularly like the transition to the major 7ths....gives it a kind of melancholy yet optimistic feel, which is what I guess you were aiming for....sadness at leaving the past behind, hope for the future...

The one and only line I felt needed work was "and the phoenix rises and flies into the sun"....you seemed to stumble over it a little, too many words crammed in....maybe something like "and the risen phoenix flies into the sun"....

As always, nice to read and listen to your songs....

:D :D :D
