When I first read this weeks assignment, I thought about going in to my head also. But I figured a lot of us would write about that, so I decided against it, plus I wanted something happy. Our home is as a safe haven for me, I love our old little rancher. I have the best wife an man can ask for, which make our home even better……(OK I'll stop now, before I start getting hate-mail)
There is no Chorus, which is unusual for me, just a bridge/solo part. Melody is done, lyrics I am fairly pleased with.
I need to find a better way to record voice so I can post the songs. Audacity records guitar great, but there are a lot of noise when I record vocal. Does anyone have some advice for me or could refer me to any previous postings
Anyway, hope you like it

Nothing like coming home
© Olav Gjerde 2006

V1
Away from the hustle. At the edge of the County line
Where the woods melts into open fields
A haven for my girls and I a place where we belong
A little place we call home
A dirt road from the mailbox my father once built
On this stone foundation he laid
The place we now call home
V2
Sweet sent of lavender still lingers in the air
From candles burnt last night
The warmth of the fire greets me with its embrace
and takes the place of the winter chill
She kiss me with an honest kiss, and I feel a gentle touch
Of my little girl who missed her daddy so much
There is nothing like coming home
There is nothing like coming home

Bridge/ Solo

V3
A melody of yet another day
Birds lift their morning song
A hot cup of coffee to warm me on my way
With a kiss a prayer I'm heading on
And every day I long for the time
When muddy tires sing their song
‘cause There is nothing like coming home
There is nothing like coming home…coming home.. (trail-off)

**Its the first time I have really recorded so it is kind of rough but you'll get the sence of what I intended for this song

Hi Olav ..

Well there no gentle way of saying this so I will just lay my cards on the table and say it . I am disappointed to be 100% honest with you only because you said and I quote ,
"I have the best wife an man can ask for, which make our home even better.."
And this wonderful lady doesn't make it into your song ?{ just my opinion}
Sorry , now i have that off my chest ..

First line verse 2 the sweet scent of lavender sounds so nice and a real homey feel to it ..

Trev..

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

I have to agree with Barnabus (Hilch,Trevor,Trev, Batman whatever
the heck his name is now) The lovely wife should get at least a
mention. I thought that was where you were going with the "Sweet
scent of lavender" then you turned it around to your "little girl"

My suggestion would be to change this part:
She kiss me with an honest kiss, and I feel a gentle touch
Of my little girl who missed her daddy so much

So it would read something like this:
She kiss me with an honest kiss, and I feel a gentle touch
Of my lovely lady who missed her man so much

You already mentioned the girls in the first verse so why not
give the second to your wife.

Other than that it painted a real pretty picture. I want to come and
visit you.

Hi again, Olav....

I agree with, er, whatsisname and John - does paint a nice picture of domestic bliss. I found this very difficult to put a rhythm to, but since you're ready to record it, doubtless you've got the metre pretty much sorted out....

Apart from that, the only thing that seemed to stick out was the repetition of "song" in the last verse - I'm not sure if you used it deliberately, as a contrast, but "Muddy tires sing their song" doesn't work that well for me - maybe "muddy tires plough their way" or something similar....

Look forward to hearing this....

I have not done a whole lot of editing yet. I highly value your input and as soon as I can get to it I'll consider your suggestions. However, trust me, my wife has a couple of songs just in her honor :)

I agree, that's a well put together song - nice guitar playing, and I can always "feel" lyrics better when there's music put to them.....I like the chord progressions too, well done!

:D :D :D

Vic

PS - I don't know if you know this or not, but you can add your lyrics to the soundclick page - that way, someone can read the lyrics while listening to the mp3.....

Great MP3! Everthing blends well. The lyrics chord structure
your voice and gutar playing all sound very good.

Bravo
