Hi Everyone
Straight in to this week's assignment. Where do these lyrics come from:
Don't you draw the Qeen of Diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the Queen of Hearts
Is always your best bet
Two points to those people who spotted The Eagles and Desperado. I'm desperately now hoping I've got them right. Looking at them they say to me don't go for someone who loves for money (or power or position) go for someone who loves for love. But they do it using imagery from a deck of cards. Two points to those who know where we're off to now.
For this week's assignment I'd like you to write a song using imagery from cards (or card games).
I was going to mention Ace of Spades but I won't bother for now.
Good writing
bob
You are what you eat, eat well
To anyone wanting further inspiration, I would refer them to Sting's Shape Of My Heart. That song pretty much writes the book on card-related imagery!
As self-appointed representative for thoses always looking for an easy way out, I have to ask:
Are tarot cards fair game?
Peace
Or wrestling or cricket cards....
you know, i've been getting into online poker, and been thinking about this very topic. also, today in my car i heard david byrne singing a song with the hook "take me to the river and push me in".
I double-dog-dare anyone who writes a song about pokemon or magic cards. lol
There's a thin fine line between hate and rage.
Now watch the line be crossed and break!
Actually my song has a subliminal sub-plot about Pokemon. You just have to read between the lines....
what about "war"?
what about "war"?
now that is an interesting thought I feel another pre-war blues song brewing 8) 8) :D --the dog
I think the topic is quite narrow in scope...only playing cards and even cards in general...
Look at the poor turnout at SSG and no opinions or critics...Oh we want an easy topic

Every assignment is supposed to be a challenge. For the record (and having watched more than three years of SSG material I think I can qualify as a judge) this topic has already more replies than quite a few topics.
Challenging topics take more time for people to write. And that's not taking into account what, exactly, is going on in most people's lives. A fair number of the SSG writers (based solely on what they write about and their critiques) are adults with jobs and families and who write when they can. This is not a mandantory attendence gig (otherwise we'd have eleven songs from you by now, right? I only say this because of the use of the word "we" in your post...) and some weeks will see more responses than other. This is by the nature of life more than the nature of the assignment.
The other thing to take into consideration are people's writing styles. Like a few of the SSG posters, I almost always write the music first. Just got that done last night. Now it's off to figure out how the rest of the song will fit.
Be seeing you on the boards and looking forward to reading your take on this week's assignment.
Peace
I disagree, I think the scope is wide. The topic of cards is just specific enough to spark the imagination with a line or two, and the rest of the song can take any direction you like. Personally I think I could come up with 4 or 5 songs about cards. Not that I want that many in my repertoire. YMMV.
