a short rant tune

------------------------------
cappo 1st

her rant

Am Em

we are like a virus
infecting all the land
infecting all the water
a virus we call man

we pollute the ocean
we pollute the sky
a virus inside gaia
causing her to die

can't escape her own son
his quest for the stars
do his best to kill her
and try infecting mars

a virus needs a host
to nuture it along
but she'll be here long after
man is dead and gone

ya she'll be here long after
man is dead and gone

--------------------------------

sytys,

Powerful topic, and one that's often at the top of my mind. Love to hear it put to music.

the rant was just too short

--------------------------------
v2

she has seen a billion years
been healthy all that time
man is here to change that
don't see it as a crime

mine the land for metal
mine the sea for oil
burning up resources
to the profits we are loyal

the virus tempts control
taking stock of the host
it's stoking up her fire
we're all about to roast

man has tried his worst
she will prove too strong
she'll be here long after
man is dead and gone

ya she'll be here long after
man is dead and done

-------------------------------

Sytys,

I had to google Gaia to find out she is the Greek Earth
Godess.

Or were you refering to The Gaia Theory

http://www.gaianet.fsbusiness.co.uk/gaiatheory.html

Some interesting reading on the theory that
The Earth is a Living Thing which fits in well
with the imagery in your song.

It might even make a good title for this piece.

One suggestion would be in part two
mine the land for metal
mine the sea for oil
burning up resources
to the profits we are loyal

Seems a little to much of the "L" ending to me.

I would sugest changing the first line something like:

mine the land for it's ore

Great job I would really like to hear this one.

If you haven't already read it, you'd probably enjoy Ishmael by Daniel Quinn...

The only thing I'd say is that if you're looking at men as a virus, you might want to rethink certain words, such as "resources" and "profits" and even "stock." I understand why they are currently there (and the use of "stock" is actually quite inspired), but they undermine the viewpoint you're trying to use. Especially since you're using the fever analogy so well:

mine the sea for oil
mine the land for ore
burning out the insides
hollowing the core

the virus tempts control
of its gracious loving host
it's stoking up her fire
we're all about to roast

Just a thought.

Looking forward, as always, to more.

Peace

Hi sytys,

I like rant especially these lines:
don't see it as a crime
she'll be here long after
man is dead and gone

Ive always believed that "mans" part to play in this world is just part of her destiny. I like the changes that have been suggested but I aggree with you that it is a little short.

Good job
cheers

hey, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated, your right John, gaia's virus, would be a better title, i put her rant in there just cause i liked how it sounded, i think Lovelock's theory is spot on as well, sort of the starting point for the song, the biggest living organism (earth) and the smallest (virus) though some may contend that a virus isn't a living organism, we certainly are.

good suggestions on the lyrics David, i spun them a bit,

mine the land for metal
mine the sea for oil
hollowing her inside
to the prophets we are loyal

the virus tempts control
of its mother host
it's stoking up her fire
we're all about to roast

not sure if i'll keep them like this, or take your changes verbatim, i like the profit line, and wanted the double meaning, but it might not fit the song, i had it in there as an illustrator of our lack of respect for the provider of our existence (the earth) and how we put so much energy into turning a buck or fighting over religion, as for the "L" endings, they don't seem that noticable when i'm singing as i've been stressing the "oi" in the rythm.

i'm set up on soundclick but have to get some recording gear to produce an mp3, any suggestions?

thanks again, have a good weekend

well if you're up to listening, here's the mp3

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=484048

not sure if i linked that right, it's a very simple tune as that's all i can play at the present, might throw in some harp in middle, anyways, any feedback is appreciated, listen at your ear risk.

Hey sytys,
I enjoyed listening to your mp3.
it's a very simple tune as that's all i can play at the present
Can I make a suggestion ?, if your up to it learn D-minor (xx0231). When I was playing your song I alternated between Am,Em and Dm,Am it adds a really nice dimension to the song.

well done
cheers
Paul

Real good idea and As My dear Old Dad told we are the only animal the will S**T in it's own nest, keep on writing it a good song. I went a listen and this would sound great with more instruments going along with the guitar and with real drive like power cords I am not sure what you had in your head when you wrote it I think this word be a great hard rock song but I guess I am dating my self using that term. I like the song a lot.

Life is not what you did. It's what you are doing.
