Hi,

I left this one unfinished a few weeks ago and actually printed out a copy on Saturday so I could start working on finishing it.
So when I read Sundays assignment I figured Fate must be trying to tell me something.

When I originally posted this some people mentioned not understanding all the references. To aid in this I've put all the song Titles in Italics with any words I changed tense on in Parenthesis ( ) .

Also a brief history of SRV's last night.
On August 26, 1990 Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble joined Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy ,and I believe brother Jimmie Vaughan, for a concert in Alpine Valley,Wisconsin. After a rousing encore Stevie and members of Eric Clapton's entourage board a helicopter to fly out. Shortly after midnight on August 27, in a dense fog, the aircraft crashes and all on board perish.

I hope this helps explain any references. It seems to be a little heavy handed to me. Let me know what you think.

Oh yeah the original assignmemt was weather imagery.

Texas Storm ( Original Posting )

Stevie knew he couldn't stand the weather
When he sang about that texas flood
Hey now take a look at little sister
She feels his fire burnin' in her blood

Like a storm coming out of Texas
Lightin' flashing on an August night
And I tell you that the sky was crying
When we heard of that fateful flight

Well he took us to Tin Pan Alley
Oh those things he used to do
He'd tell you if the house was rockin'
Just come on in and play some Blues

Like a storm comin' out of Texas
He could cut just like a crosscut saw
And I hear that night in Alpine Valley
he left them all in awe

Texas Storm ( Revisited )

You know Stevie Couldn't Stand the Weather
When he sang about that Texas Flood
Hey now take a Look at Little Sister
She feels his fire burnin' in her blood

Like a storm coming out of Texas
Lightin' flashing on a August night
I can tell you that The Sky was ( Is ) Cryin'
When we heard about that fateful flight

Well he took us all to Tin Pan Alley
Oh those (The)Things He ( I ) Use To Do
He'd tell you If The House Was ( Is ) Rockin'
Just come on in and play some Blues

Like a storm coming out of Texas
He could cut just like a Crosscut Saw
And that night out in Alpine Valley
He left them in a state of awe

As his hero Jimi did before him
He'd soar high on Little Wings
The Pride and Joy of Austin
He could make that guitar cry and sing

Like a storm coming out of Texas
Lightin' flashing on a August night
I can tell you that The Sky was ( Is ) Cryin'
When we heard about that fateful flight

Like a storm coming out of Texas
He could cut just like a Crosscut Saw
And that night out in Alpine Valley
He left them in a state of awe

The the italics and brief history helped loads, the brilliance of the song would have been completely lost on me with out them. The extra verses also work well. good job.

just wish i could write topical stuff with clever references.

Rob,

Thanks for the comments.

You Wrote "just wish i could write topical stuff with clever references."

I wish it was as easy as that makes it sound. Try researching your subject matter. Although I'm an SRV fan this took quite a bit of research and fact checking. Pulled out CDs and tapes did a few google searches to get the history right and left it unfinished for a few weeks. After all that I was still editing it right up until I posted it.

Glad the notation and history helped.
