I'M FULL OF EMPTY

I’m full of empty, I’m full of woes
I’ve got lots of nothin’, not them, not these, not those
I’m full of empty promises, that no one seems to keep
I’m full of empty dreams whenever I go to sleep

I’m full of empty, yet I never get enough
I’ve got empty bags I fill whenever things get tough
I fill them with empty lies creating lots of empty hopes
I’m full of empty, that’s how I cope

who could want anything more
who could want anything less
emptiness is everything
you need, but I confess
I’d give away my emptiness
if I could fill my days
with empty wars and empty graves
and endless holidays . . . . .

Empty the world of war
empty the world of grief
empty the world of empty words
steal them like a thief

I’m full of empty, I’m full of woes
these bags I fill with emptiness are mine where ever I go
I wander empty roads and paths and try to find my way
through empty fields and empty streams, where did everybody go I pray
that they’re alright

I understand the source of the chordal monotony. Theres not much in the way of dynamics, it lacks any soft and loud passages.
Like James' lyric, the repeated use of words, in this case "I", further ads to a flatness.
Some great lines. The concept of full of emptiness is pretty cool. "I’d give away my emptiness
if I could fill my days" is very good.

Hi Neil,

+1 on the title and the line John mentioned. :D

Suggestion: consider a line for line balance between concrete nouns and abstract nouns. Right now the abstract nouns out weigh and it's difficult to get a focused view on the meaning of the song or the emotion of the singer.

Thanks for sharing.

James

Hi Neil,

actually I think you did a really good job of dancing around the concept of empty :D well done. For me the realization of a song in terms of the music is secondary to the intent of these assignments, so I'm not too bothered by the delivery. Any musical interpretation of a song is just that, one musical interpretation. Having said that I think there is room for some form of contrast within a song to emphasise a change of intent, for example the change from abstract to concrete (James's comment), see below.

Empty the world of war
empty the world of grief
empty the world of empty words
steal them like a thief

this is concrete, here instead of picking you could strum the chords. Lyrically you could also precede that with something like
"I want to...."

B.T.W I love this line
I’m full of empty, that’s how I cope

cheers

Paul
