Although I found last weeks assignment interesting
I was taking a bit of a hiatus from songwriting and
(Sorry Bob) it didn't really speak to me. It's a shame
that nobody took up the challenge though.

I've been taking more time to actually play my guitars
instead of writing new stuff and found this little song
I've had hanging around and thought it might fit this
weeks assignment.

It's not so much "In The Blink Of An Eye" but more
like one mans reaction to one of those "Blink Of The
Eye" moments that Chefie and Hilch wrote about.

MP3 Here

Think I'm Gonna Get Drunk

Think I'm gonna get drunk tonight
Lose a bet maybe start a fight
Think I'll get a little bit out of control
Drink 'til I forget about you
Ain't that what a man is suppose to do
Maybe I'll fall in love you never know

It could take more than a couple rounds
For I thought it was true love I found
Then I learned about your other man
So be with him Don't worry 'bout me
'Cause I'll just drink 'til I can't see
Or at least you know I'll do the best I can

Think I'm gonna get drunk tonight
Won't come home 'til the morning light
Maybe I just won't come home at all
Party 'til the break of dawn
Then wake up on some stranger's lawn
That's how far this broken man can fall

I'll cry into a beer or two
Do a couple Cuevro toasts to you
Laugh about the ways you've done me wrong
Go with him in his fancy car
I'll just sit here at the bar
Singing along to some old country song

Think I'm gonna get drunk tonight
Won't come home 'til the morning light
Maybe I just won't come home at all
Party 'til the break of dawn
Then wake up on some stranger's lawn
That's how far this broken man can fall

Think I'm gonna get drunk tonight
Lose a bet maybe start a fight
Think I'll get a little bit out of control
Drink 'til I forget about you
Ain't that what a man is suppose to do
Maybe I'll fall in love you never know

And just for the fun of it I also put together
a video for this which can be found HERE

Very nicely done, John!

The only quibble I have is with the word "party" - it just doesn't fit right with everything else that's going on. Best I can come up with right now is "drink" again, and I think maybe I should try for something different.

Maybe I'll come up with something after having a drink myself...

Peace

A nice song mate, and well done on the clip as well!

I agree with the 'party' thing that david suggested, it does seem to convey too much of a 'fun' image to the song.

How about something more akin to;
...
Maybe I just won't come home at all
Drown sorrow 'til the break of dawn
Then wake up on some stranger's lawn
That's how far this broken man can fall

Just a suggestion!

I like your suggestion! I didn't notice it until David mentioned
it but yes party does convey an image of good times.

My idea to fix it was to use imbibe in place of party.
You fix (or something along those lines) is much better.

Thanks

Hey John,

What to say? This is great. It's tough writing an original drinking song, but you've done it. A lot of great one-liners.

Nice work on the MP3 also.

P.S.: Loved the "icon" you chose for Soundclick. :)

If you liked the "icon" checkout the video link at the
bottom of the post. You might get a kick out of that.
