well i was going to write an essay tonight, but it just seemed more fun to write a song.

Industry of Revolution

The streets are running red
T-shirts, caps, and huge flags
But the crowd's milling round
Shuffling feet, looking down

Say you want it all but settle for sod all
Do any of you know what you're fighting for?
Or are you just out for an afternoon stroll?

T-shirts of Guevara
Aren't extreme, they're mainstream
Symbol of rebellion
Based upon the system

Say you want it all but settle for sod all
Do any of you know what the protest's for?
Or are you just out for an afternoon stroll?

What's up with the communist baseball hats?
Why's there a stall selling communist flags?
Do you think this is any solution?
It's an industry of revolution!

And all of the while
Officers and guns watch
The nice quiet revolt
Lest anyone shout out

Say you want it all but settle for sod all
Do any of you know what you're waiting for?
Or are you just out for an afternoon stroll?

any comments/criticisms much appreciated

cheers

rob:)

Hey Rob,

I'd love to know what's laying around the room that inspired this one! Just so I could tie it to the assignment. Nevertheless, I like it quite a lot.
T-shirts of Guevara
Aren't extreme, they're mainstream
This is one of those lines I wish I'd written. I love it. Very insightful.

The line:
Say you want it all but settle for sod all
I think I know what you're getting at, but the phrase "sod all" is nat one I'm familiar with.

And in the last line of the last verse, I think you meant "Lest" instead of "Least".

I really like the sentiment of this one, and you expressed it very well.

hi scratch

thanks for the comments,

i've changed it to lest, my spelling is abismable!

'sod all' is fairly slangy i guess, it basically means 'nothing' but more aggressively

believe it or not the whole song more or less happened to me, though i've twisted a few things.

the item in my room is a CGIL (italian communist party) flag pinned up on my wall. i bought it from a stall when my school trip to rome found itself in the middle of a mass demonstration communist demonstration. turns out majority of the people there werent communist, they just took up the colours to protest against the assaination the foreign minister i think it was. naturally i wanted to join in...it would have been more educational that looking in yet another church!! so the song is partly self critical.

the communist baseball hat exists as well, but thats back home(i'm at uni currently) in a different room, didnt have to pay for that though... found it on the underground floor on the same day - just such a contradication i had to have it!

overall an awesome school trip :D

thanks again

rob :)

I was thinking you had a Che t-shirt lying in the corner or something. But I wasn't going to venture a guess. Sounds like an awesome trip. And the song really captures the "mob mentality" without any real allegience. Again... well done.

Had a hard time with this one. I can't really follow the train of thought or the meter of the song. I try putting the verse in "Working Class Hero" doesn't work; try putting it into a heavy metal piece, doesn't work. The verse is good; I just can't image a musical form?

hey rob:)

like it very much:)
your song made me think of 'revolution' by Mellow Mark, a German. (che shirts in there, too---'revolution is more than che gueavara on tshirts')

and yet again a song that is humourous(?) in places, which I like!

I couldn't make it fit to the assignment but now that you've explained that it's alright. wish I'd been there;)
and thanx for explaining 'sod all'.

love the lines scratch mentioned and also:
Or are you just out for an afternoon stroll?

good job:)

I like this, its a very good theme. so true of todays society that seem to campaign for the sake of it, or have strong beliefs but not the desire to do anything about them.

Live the same lines as every one else re Che.. very very good.

But I think if you remove this completely from topic and really concentrate on getting the real message across, this could be really good.

What I'm saying is, try again, because whilst its good this could be so much better, and I think your an angry enough lad to do it justice.

Find all you need in your mind, If you take the time
