she talks to her shoes
about the way that they move
across tightropes
she talks to her shoes
about the way that they lose
their grip over time
she talks to her shoes
in a language that only she and her shoes understand
and she talks to her shoes
and her shoes acknowlege her words to be true

run on your toes
run like a bird flies into the window
fall on the floor
fall like a bird flown into the glass
die on your knees
die as the wind tears holes in the rooftops
say your goodbyes
kiss them goodbye, those beautiful shoes
You always knew
you knew they couldnt go with you

she talks to her shoes
about the way that they move
across tightropes
she talks to her shoes
about the way that they lose
their grip over time
she talks to her shoes
in a language that only she and her shoes understand
and she talks to her shoes
and her shoes acknowlege her words to be true

say your goodbyes
kiss them goodbye, those beautiful shoes
You always knew
you knew they couldnt go with you

Cheers,

Hi Hagrider,

You start off with a very strong verse . . . . . establish a relationship that catches my interest . . . . . . and then . . . . . . .I don't know what happens. Crash and burn. Seems too sudden . . . . . and maybe that's the point . . . . . . but I wonder if a little more of the relationship could be explored until that fatal step. I think there's great potential for this to be a really interesting story. Any ideas for music?

As James says, thanks for sharing.

I think its probably going to be two different songs to be honest. Will probs ditch the verse bit & use it some other time.
Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I will address melody & style next using just the shoes bit, and then see where it meanders from there.

Cheers,

HagRider

Hi hagrider,

Nice start :D Interesting idea....it would be great to see it developed. It reminds me a bit of a songwriter that hasn't shown up at SSG for awhile..."Straycat, where are you?"

The idea of the girl talking to her shoes indicates she is not very social and her shoes have become a replacement friend for "real people".....you could explore how she got that way.....what are the consequences of living like that.....

You seem to hint at a "loss" in the friendship for some reason needing to go barefoot, or possibly outgrowing the "shoe friend".....but there is room to develop that idea more

For a chorus you might keep it simple and repetitive for example:

She Talks To Her Shoes
She Talks To Her Shoes
She won't talk to me or you
She Talks To Her Shoes
She Talks To Her Shoes

As David says, "Peace"

Hmmm. I'm lost. I don't know what this song is about. At first I thought it might be the old joke about accountants.

How do you tell if an accountant is an extrovert or an introvert?

The extroverted accountant looks at YOUR shoes.

It could be about a dancer. But I don't get the part about flying into a window.

I'm not totally sure what its about either at the moment. Its evolving. I think it is currently about loving something but not being able to keep it. So the 2 talking to the shoes bits are about just really liking your shoes and talking to them because you like them. Ie. forming a kind of relationship with possessions. Maybe thats just me....
Then the first goodbye verse is about excitement to be alive & the wildness and buffetting of life. Then the second goodbye verse is about things ending.

Latest incarnation :

she talks to her shoes
about the way that they move
when she's walking a wire
she talks to her shoes
about the way that they lose
their grip over time
And when she talks to her shoes
she uses the words that she heard in the blues
She's in love with her shoes
because her shoes acknowledge her words to be true

Run on your toes
run like the winds run ahead of the weather
step on the sky
catch and keep the wind in your sail
hurricane blows
and the storm tears a hole in the leather
say your goodbyes
kiss them goodbye
those beautiful shoes
you always knew
you knew
they couldn't go with you

she talks to her shoes
about the way that they shine
when she's walking on water
she talks to her shoes
about the way they combine
two tracks in a line
And when she talks to her shoes
she uses the words that she heard in the blues
She's in love with her shoes
because her shoes acknowledge her words to be true

did you suppose
did you believe you would be here forever
here is the wind
come to blow the blossom away
step on the rose
and the thorn tears a hole in the leather
say your goodbyes
kiss them goodbye
those beautiful shoes
you always knew
you knew
they couldn't go with you

Cheers,

HagRider

"she talks to her shoes in a language that only she and her shoes understand" - I like that line

I like the revisions. For me, the next step would be to put it to music and see what lines are working or need changing to make the lyrics singable.
