Word play? Double meaning? Hm, that pretty much describes just about every song I've posted on here, he, he. Ironically, though, I'm not sure it accurately describes this one. Maybe it's more about the person I'm singing about using word play. Or something. But since I haven't been here in a while and this is the first song I've been able to record in months, I'm posting it anyway. Hope all is well with everyone.

If I Didn't Love You So
I've gotten use to your lies
Your flowing crocodile tears
Your less than subtle ways
Of playing on my fears
I've grown immune to your smile
Your voice, your eyes, and then
The love they profess
With no love behind them
Well honey don'tcha know
That I can see right through you, oh
Honey don'tcha know
That I can lie like you do, though
You think you're foolin' me, no
Honey don'tcha know
I would surely hate you
If I didn't love you so
I've gotten use to your style
The ways in which you move
Those less than subtle ways
You dance around the truth
And you're so use to your lies
I wonder if you know
The difference between truth
And all the lies you've told
Well honey don'tcha know
That I can see right through you, oh
Honey don'tcha know
That I can lie like you do, though
You think you're foolin' me, no
Honey don'tcha know
I would surely hate you
If I didn't love you so
There's no rhyme or reason
To these head games that you play
Your stories change with the seasons
Or the dress you wear that day
And though I can't believe in
All those words that you say
I'm so use to your eyes and voice
I'll listen anyway
Well honey don'tcha know
That I can see right through you, oh
Honey don'tcha know
That I can lie like you do, though
You think you're foolin' me, no
Honey don'tcha know
I would surely hate you
If I didn't love you so
Joe,
First let me say that I am not a huge fan of hip hop.
Second let me say that this I like. The word play works great
I would surely hate you
If I didn't love you so
It has a very campy stage/film musical feel to it.
(Think Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Anyways I found the whole song very entertaining .
Good Job
John
Thanks John. We had a great time making it. Laughed a lot--especially when we were doing the sound effects.
Hey Joe,
It sounds like you had lots of fun doing this one........ makes me wish I could step out of my folk comfort zone, well done.
Only constructive thing I can think of, is lose some of the effects on the voice so the lyrics are clearer, they are well worth listening to and I had to read them while listenng to catch all of them.
Go well

Hey Joe,
that was great, reminded me a lot of the B52's, I think Jamir is right with the voice though, not too clear that it becomes sterile but just a little less distorted.
well done (both of you)
cheers
Paul
Hey Joe,
Fun stuff. I knew when I read the assignment that you'd be all over it.
I hear the B52's in there as well.
I would surely hate you
If I didn't love you so
That's an awesome way to sum up the way a lot of people feel in their relationships. It's kinda like Tom Cochrane's "Get Up", except not dark and moody.
Ice cream is a dish best served cold.
Not my particular favourite genre either, but this is well put together, catchy and the lyrics work fine....
I got the B52's reference that a couple of people mentioned, I also thought I detected a trace of Blonde in there....
I've said it before though, if the artist is having fun, and that gets across to the listener - which it does here - then the listener's going to have fun too - all about communicating with the audience, in this case me - and you brought a smile to my face!
Thanks, Joe....
